It’s amazing where learning comes from.
I’ve been trying to break new ground on the rowing machine at my gym (The Ardilaun). I set a target and I went for it, only to fail, time and time again.
Then I tried a different approach, instead of going all out – I measured the gap between where I was starting from and where I wanted to get to, then I broke it down into incremental improvements over a period of time that if achieved would get me from where I was to where I wanted to be. Then, I did the hard work and hey presto, after a period of time I didn’t just meet the target, I rowed right through it as if it wasn’t even there!
What big targets are you trying to reach and what incremental steps can you take that will get you from where you are now to where you want to be?
Four simple elements – where are you starting from, where do you want to get to, what are the small steps that can get you from here to there and the critical element – the focussed, disciplined endeavour required to take each small step and bring you from where you are now to where you want to be.
What are you waiting for?
